【Summary】
Bloating is a common symptom in clinical. There are many diseases that may cause bloating, such as diseases that related to digestion system. For example, functional dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic constipation and peptic ulcer disease, etc. All these diseases may cause bloating. Bloating may be produced by different mechanisms, such as abnormal accumulation of luminal gas or fluid and psychological pressure that infect the peristalsis of bowel. It is generally believed that emotional stress and eating habits are important factors that will lead to aggravation of symptoms. From the point of view of traditional Chinese medicine, flatulence belongs to the categories of “stomach bloating”, “fullness” and “epigastric pain”. It is highly related to liver, spleen and stomach. The disease location is stomach and large intestine. This case is a patient with stomach bloating and discomfort with a history of gastric ulcer. The stomach bloating aggravates after meals, the abdomen is full of oppressive pain and the patient feels sour in the stomach. After TCM syndrome differentiation, it is liver stagnation and spleen deficiency. Therefore, the treatment principle is to disperse stagnated liver and relieve depression, also to replenish qi and strengthen the spleen. The prescription is Chai Hu Shu Gan San and Xiang Sha Liu Jun Zi Tang plus single herbs. The symptoms are relieved after the treatments.
