Gastroesophageal reflux is a common problem in digestive system diseases. With the change of diet and lifestyle of modern people, this kind of situation increases apparently. It will not only cause organic dyspepsia, but also affect the social and psychological health of patients. Therefore, when patients are under stress, the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux will become much more severe. From the point of view of traditional Chinese medicine, the malfunction of Qi circulation within spleen and stomach is closely related to the stagnation of liver. Insufficient qi circulation will lead to “liver qi stagnation”. Excessive qi function will lead to “adverse liver qi”. This article attempts to analyze the clinical experience of many physicians from ancient to modern times, and summarizes the rules of medicine use. It was found that the application of acrid-bitter medicine for emanating and descending was the main approach to treat the disharmony between liver and stomach. Otherwise, the corresponding drugs were given according to different medical constitution.
