【Summary】
A 55-year-old female woman diagnosed as Sjögren’s syndrome with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. She visited Center for Traditional Medicine of Taipei Veterans General Hospital on August 23, 2019, and her main symptoms were palpitations, wheezing, calf edema, numb fingers, and rash on both feet. Due to the pattern of “Yin Deficiency and Internal Heat”, “Downward Diffusion of Damp-Heat”, “Liver and Kidney Yin Deficiency”, the TCM doctor adopted “Nourish yin to extinguish fire”, “Clean heat and eliminate dampness” plus “Nourish Liver and Kidney“ to treat her. After seven continuous follow-up treatments, the symptoms were effectively improved. This case report showed that the collaboration between Chinese herbal medicine and conventional medicine could effectively alleviate the complex symptoms of patients with Sjögren’s syndrome combined with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Moreover, Chinese herbal medicine treatment could be a complementary therapy for conventional medicine.
